Hachinohe Portal Museum ‘Hacchi’

The Hachinohe Portal Museum “hacchi”, which opened in 2011, is a new tourist site in Hachinohe. It acts as a tourism portal, focusing on and showcasing the city’s attractions, while also serving as a place for activities by artists and local residents in its halls and galleries. With a variety of tenants, including cafes and restaurants, taking up residence inside the building, there are many ways to enjoy this facility.
One of hacchi’s symbols is the clock in hacchi Square on the first floor. Inspired by the Horyo Kagura folk dance, in which a group of dancers wearing wooden lion’s head masks rattle the lions’ teeth, a display of similar lions’ heads below the clock announces every hour by clapping their jaws together.
