Hachinohe Weekend Excursion

This is a two-day, one-night weekend excursion in Hachinohe that allows you to visit the highlights of Hachinohe, also known as “Field museum Hachinohe” because of how its tourist sights are spread across the city. These highlights include: the morning markets, yokocho (side streets), the national treasure from the Jomon era of the clay figure with its hands pressed together in prayer, and many more.

First day

Hachinohe Station (arrive around noon)

Time required : 30-60 minutes required

Prepare for the tour at this base of Hachinohe tourism where the appeal of the region is condensed and introduced.

See the national treasure "Gassho Dogu" which is a clay figure with its hands pressed together in prayer. The pose creates a unique presence for the figure.

 This 800m-long market has over 300 vendors, making it the largest morning market in Japan, with over 10,000 visitors. The scale and variety of goods will surely surprise you!

Ride on JR Hachinohe Line for 6 minutes

Same Station

As the name Same (shark) suggests, there is a shark monument outside the station to greet you.

Kabushima Island

Time required : 30 minutes

Observe black-tailed gulls nurturing their young from up close, then boost your luck by praying for your stock to increase at Kabushima shrine.

This observation deck was used as a military facility during wartimes. Take in a view of the Pacific Ocean while eating soft-serve ice cream from Horonbairu.

Remarks

○Tatehana Ganpeki Asaichi (Morning Market at Tatehana Wharf) is open every day from mid-March to December. On weekdays and Saturdays, head to the Mutsuminato Ekimae Asaichi (Morning Market in front of Mutsuminato Station) for original breakfasts of fresh sashimi, rice and miso soup. (Excluding the second Saturday of every month)
○You can also buy souvenirs at Youtree, which is directly connected to Hachinohe Station.
